200 Golden

Someone asked, "Do you ever do Goldens?"
The answer is yes.
This painting has already led to a number of commissions of various dogs, all in this close up pose.

177 Corgi Puppy

Seven weeks since they were born, I am now painting the corgi puppies. One went to a new home last Saturday. I was a bit resistant to painting the puppies at first. I was worried that the paintings could easily become "too cute." But now that they are leaving, I am painting them.

This painting and the next few are painted on a wood panel rather than on stretched canvas. The quarter inch mahogany plywood comes from a wooden boat builder. It has a great smooth surface that captures all the brush strokes. What's great about it for you is that they are much easier to frame.

54 Foxhound

I began working on a project for a neary Hunt. I am currently doing research for the painting, which involves taking and looking at a lot of photos and traveling to the location. I really liked the expression on this fellow. He seems to be having a great time, running full out.

7. Back to the Dogs

This morning I joined a group of plein air painters from the Raleigh-Durham NC area in painting at the Fearrington. A beautiful sunny but not hot day. I completed paintings for this project along with the start of a larger garden scene. More about that later.
Today I've gone back to the dogs. Looking back, I seem to be painting a lot of dogs in golf carts. In golf carts at Horse shows. And a good number of Jack Russells in golf carts at horse shows. Maybe like this fellow, they are more relaxed in a golf cart. This scene was at the Duke Children's Classic Horse Show.
