236 First Radish

We got the vegetable garden in back before Easter. Squash is up, one hill of cucumbers, sunflowers are almost a foot tall. Green beans are just about to reach their trellis. The basils, parsleys and chives in the herb garden are providing us with fresh herbs. But most the most important plant in the garden is the radish. Matures in three weeks. The first food from the garden. Here is the first radish of the season.

206 Roses and Chimneys

Roses and Chimneys
4 x 6 Oil on canvas
$100. shipping included

I am continuing with the theme of warm spring mornings. It is just too cold for North Carolina. This paintings inspiration also goes back to the same painting trip as "Spring Planting" yesterday. The sun and shadows, roof lines and chimneys create a geometric backdrop for the organic forms of flowers and bushes. Fun to paint.

205 Spring Planting

Spring Planting
4 x 6 Oil on Canvas
SOLD

Looking ahead to bright mornings, warm sun on your shoulders, the season of optimism. Rebirth and growth. The promise of springtime. A great subject to paint on a gray winter's day.
On a more mundane note, today we are planting some trees and starting to repair fences. When the old roses bloom in May, we will have a class in the yard painting them.

Here is a photo of "Spring Planting" in a gold leaf "plein air" style frame. These frames really add a certain je ne sais quoi.

185 Seven Sisters at the Garden Gate

I got a chance the other day to take the easel out into our own garden and paint. This is the view looking out of the garden towards our front pasture. The garden face I made from cedar logs and tobacco sticks. It's about time to replace the tobacco sticks, untreated wood outside in the south lasting for almost 15 years seems pretty darn good to me.

This blog is now one year old. I will have a special offer to those of you following this blog, and for fans of my facebook page, and a real special offer for my collectors. So check back.....

144 Holly Berry

Here is a painting for Christmas and Winter. I am no longer in denial about the season. Here is a cheery painting. The red berries, green leaves and blue sky make it a colorful little gem. Not a lot of snow, just enough to make everything look good.

5. New Roses

Come with me on my Artists's journey of an oil painting a day for a hundred days! I hope that by sharing with you a part of my world, you will be able to glimpse the inner workings of my art. My paintings are an expression of how I see the world around me. I work with the richness of oil paints to capture brilliant colors, fleeting movement, and light of the subject and the moment. I hope you walk with me through this journey. Company is always welcome and suggestions appreciated!
Today's painting is another of the rose bushes by our pasture. This Rose is New Dawn, which we propogated from cuttings found at an old farm site nearby.
