203 Back with a Pig

What can I say....I had to get a pig painting posted. This one seems a bit more pensive than the other pig paintings.
Thanks to the internet, the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy and listing of local farms selling produce, I found a farm raising Gloucestershire Old Spots less than twenty miles from our home. I thought I would be trekking to Virginia and north to find them, but sometimes if you look in your own backyard.....

130 Pigs - Mother and Child

Everyone loves paintings of mothers and children. Look at Mary Cassatt. She hangs in museums around the world. She just didn't paint pigs. Well, maybe there weren't any British Saddlebacks around for her to paint in Paris.

112 Pig in garden

Pig in the Garden. This is a British Saddleback, another of the rare breeds of livestock. A great pasture pig, it was developed from the Wessex Saddleback and the Essex Saddleback.

83 Old Spot 2

After entering two paintings in the Swine art show, I became intrigued by the Gloucestershire Old Spot. Another two pigs have made it into the One Hundred Paintings. Both Old Spots, which by the way are very good pasture pigs. Hearty and with gentle dispositions. The ideal family hog.

18. Pig Ears

I am spending a lot of time down on the farm with these recent paintings. I can help myself. They are fun to paint and popular with everyone. This painting of a pig with a backlight and glowing ears ( the computer image really doesn't do it justice ) was on display at the CDI Dressage Horse Show in Raleigh and was also purchased there.
